Henty and Co., Capital and Counties Bank, 1 & 3 Brighton Road

Henty's Bank in Worthing provided a service from a building on the corner of the High Street and Three Bridges Road twice a week and on fair days. Henty's was sold to the Capital and Counties Bank of Horsham in 1896. A permanent bank was built in 1901 on the corner of Brighton Road and Springfield Road, on a site previously occupied by Fillery and Nightingale. It merged with Lloyds Bank, now part of the Lloyds TSB Group, in 1918. The building is now called Nightingale House.

Co-Operative Permanent Building Society, 54 The Boulevard

Formed in 1884 the society changed its name to Nationwide Building Society in September 1970 following a vote by it's members.


Lloyds Bank, 1 & 3 Brighton Road; 1-3 The Broadway

London and County Bank, 14 High Street

The London and County Bank was in the southern end of the High Street, near the railway level crossing. In 1909 the London and Westminster Bank amalgamated with the London and County Bank to form the London, County and Westminster Bank, which then became the London, County, Westminster and Parr's bank and later simply the Westminster Bank. The Westminster and National Provincial Banks merged in 1968 becoming National Westminster Bank, which was acquired in 2000 by the Royal Bank of Scotland. The building was demolished to make way for new development.


Midland Bank, 10 High Street

In 1992 the Midland was taken over by HSBC Holdings and was renamed HSBC Bank in 1999.


National Provincial Bank, 101 High Street

The Westminster and National Provincial Banks merged in 1968 becoming National Westminster Bank.

Trustee Savings Bank 31 High Street

Between 1970 and 1985 the various trustee savings banks were amalgamated into the TSB Group Plc, which merged with Lloyds Bank in 1995 forming Lloyds TSB. Following the acquisition of HBOS in 2009 it was renamed the Lloyds Banking Group.


Westminster Bank, 72 High Street, Three Bridges, 16, 18 The Boulevard, 2 The Broadway

In 1947 Westminster Bank opened a branch in Three Bridges. The Westminster and National Provincial Banks merged in 1968 becoming National Westminster Bank, which was acquired in 2000 by the Royal Bank of Scotland.


Woolwich Equitable Building Society, 2-3 Grand Parade, High Street

The Woolwich Equitable Building Society demutualised in 1997 and became a bank, Woolwich PLC. Barclays took over Woolwich in August 2000. In 2006, The Woolwich was re-branded as Barclays mortgage arm and the branch was closed.
